I just got my copy of Jelly Bucket #7. In the scheme of literary journals, it's a young magazine, but it's nicely designed and filled with an eclectic mix of poetry and prose. My story "The New Gold Rush" appears within the pages of this issue.

My thanks to Wendy Gowins and staff.

New Nonfiction in Pleiades

My essay "Baby It Ain't Easy" appears in the new issue of Pleiades (vol. 36.1) as part of a symposium regarding honest depictions of violence in literature.

In his forward to the symposium, Phong Nguyen poses the questions, "What does it mean to write honestly about violence? What does honest violence in fiction actually look like?" Nine writers wrestle with these topics in short essays that provide a variety of enlightening and intriguing perspectives.

Thanks to Phong Nguyen and Pleiades for inviting me to be part of the conversation.

The inaugural volume of The Best Small Fictions -- which contains my story, "A Notice from the Office of Reclamation" -- launches October 6th. Needless to say, I'm incredibly thrilled to see my work in a real book for the first time.

If you like short shorts, or flash fictions, or whatever you want to call them, the volume is well worth checking out. You can read reviews here and here. And of course, the book is available for purchase at places like Amazon.
